Frequently Asked Questions
Will you edit footage provided to you?
Yes. We will work with you to determine the best way to edit your footage in order to achieve your business objective.
Do you provide movie film to digital transfer?
Not at this time.
Do you do website design?
No. We develop video content for websites.
What is your turn-around time for delivering finished video?
It depends upon the complexity of the video production. A simple edit of single camera raw footage takes much less time than elaborate editing from three cameras with heavy computer graphics infusion, etc. Delivery time will be discussed on a per project basis with commitment times and milestones established during preproduction planning. Together, we will determine a target delivery date and include that date in the contract.
Who owns the production copyright?
Some projects are contracted strictly as a work for hire, in which case SunDolphin Productions will produce the film and ownership will belong to the client. Other project contracts are constructed such that SunDolphin Productions is sole or partial owner, with compensation to SunDolphin Productions being on a profit sharing basis.
Who owns the raw footage?
Typically, if SunDolphin Productions is hired strictly to shoot and provide raw footage to a client, the footage belongs to the client. If SunDolphin Productions is hired to produce a finished production, raw footage remains the property of SunDolphin Productions. However, this can be negotiated per project.
Do you upload to Vimeo / YouTube?
Yes, depending upon the nature of the project and client/content sensitivity. SunDolphin Productions uses Vimeo as it's default video repository. Any video we plan to use for self promotion, posting on our website/blog, etc. we will upload to Vimeo (and possibly YouTube). Permission to make the video viewable by the public on a forum such as Vimeo or YouTube will be determined during project negotiations.
If the client wishes SunDolphin Productions to upload the video to the client's Vimeo/YouTube account, we will be happy to do that for you as well.
How are edit reviews conducted?
For edit reviews conducted remotely, SunDolphin Productions will create an account for the client on our website and build a private screening room accessible only to the client and anyone else the client chooses to share the access credentials with. The video(s) will be uploaded to the private screening room and notification of video availability sent to the client. The client will have a specified number of days to view the video. A conference call will then be scheduled to discuss.
Alternatively, we can display the video in a live conference at the clients location for discussion.
Is there a typical production time to length-of-finished-video ratio?
No. Production time can vary greatly and has little dependency on finished video length. For instance, shooting for a standard 20 minute automobile infomercial with associated 15 second spots can be accomplished in 4 - 8 hours, depending on a few variables. However, shooting for a five minute web promo could take multiple days depending on complexity of set design, special effects, location moves, etc. During initial consultation and/or pre-production planning, we will estimate the amount of time we need for production (shooting the footage), based upon the nature of the video and develop a production schedule.
Can a contract be amended?
Absolutely. "Scope creep" can, and usually does occur, as work gets underway and creative juices begin to flow. If the change in scope of work is relatively insignificant, contract amendment may not be necessary. If the change in scope of work is significant enough, we will amend the contract accordingly. This will be determined and negotiated on a case by case basis.
